S04:E04: Startup Story: Dan Faggella and Emerj

57 sec read

Daniel Faggella is CEO and Founder of Emerj Artificial Intelligence Research.

Called upon by organizations like the World Bank, the United Nations, INTERPOL, and global pharmaceutical and banking companies, Daniel helps business and government leaders navigate the competitive landscape of AI capabilities, and build strategies that win.

Daniel is of the belief that the most important ethical consideration of the coming thirty years will be the creation or expansion of sentience and intelligence in technology. Emerj is intended first as a vehicle to proliferate an open-minded conversation about the implications and applications of AI. The business model came later, purpose was, and is, first (see “the cause“).

At entrepreneur since the age of 20, Daniel has founded and sold two previous companies (a martial arts academy he started to pay for grad school, and an Inc5000 eCommerce business) in order to gather the funds needed to focus fully on Emerj.

Daniel is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, winning the title of 2011 national champion (IBJJF Pan America Games).

Daniel graduated with a masters degree in Positive Psychology, focusing his thesis research on the science of skill development.

Daniel’s writing about the business and moral implications of AI and emerging technologies have been featured in publications such as: TechCrunch, Boston Business Journal, VentureBeat, Xconomy, VICE Motherboard, the World Economic Forum, PEW Research and more.

Daniel has spoken about AI and neurotech at some of the world’s top universities (Standford, MIT, Harvard, others), and has been asked to speak or join panel discussions at events such as AI World, AI Applications Summit, GSMA Mobile World Congress, and more.
